Metadata, demo mode and large-export performance
New
- Adios can now carry Flickr titles, descriptions, tags, dates, places and orientation into your exported JPEGs. You decide on the review screen whether to include them.
- Optional XMP sidecars preserve the same information alongside every file, including videos and formats that cannot hold the metadata themselves — ready for Lightroom and other photo apps that read XMP sidecars.
- Optional filename titles use the name you gave a photo on Flickr instead of Flickr's export filename.
- You can pause a download at any time and continue it later from the same screen. Partial ZIP files stay in place, so only the missing bytes are downloaded after you continue.
- The demo exports your first five albums as real folders on your disk. If your account has five albums or fewer, there is nothing left to unlock.
Performance for large archives
- Tested with archives of 500,000 photos, Adios now avoids searching the same folders again and again for every photo. The new approach is designed to scale to one million photos and beyond.
- A compact build manifest is appended as files are placed, avoiding a growing full rewrite during large exports.
- Metadata is processed one photo at a time, keeping memory use bounded by the individual photo instead of the whole archive.
- Album creation reuses matching files and folders safely, even after an interrupted run or a temporary problem with an external drive.
Fixed and refined
- Very long Flickr titles are found reliably again.
- JPEG orientation from Flickr is retained in exported photos.
Automatic updates — clearer errors and more reliable Flickr exports
New
- Adios keeps itself up to date: it checks for a new version at startup and installs it in a single click — downloading and restarting happen on their own.
- On macOS, Adios is now installed from a disk image that puts it in your Applications folder. That is also what allows the app to update itself later on.
- If something goes wrong, the error screen prepares an email for you: version, system, the technical cause and the relevant part of the log, ready to send.
- The log file can be opened from the menu at any time.
Reliability
- A single download link that cannot be checked no longer stops the whole export — the remaining files carry on, and Adios reads their name and size from the download itself.
- Flickr's account page is recognized even when its address carries a language parameter or a language prefix. Before, the login screen could keep reloading itself on accounts that were not set to English.
- Error screens now name the technical cause, so a screenshot is enough to tell what happened.
Privacy
- The log file keeps host names only — never download addresses or file paths. Flickr's export links are signed, so an address alone could open your archive; it never reaches the log.

- A short review can be sent straight from the finished screen, and it only appears on the website if you agree.
Reliability and speed
- Three downloads run in parallel, and unpacking starts while the remaining files are still arriving.
- Photos are found through an index built once in memory instead of searching the export folder for every single photo — that search was the slowest part of version 1.
- Manifest-based resume for interrupted downloads and exports.
- Interrupted downloads continue inside the file instead of starting it from the beginning.
- Internet outages are ridden out for up to two hours with growing pauses, and connections that stop delivering data are detected and rebuilt — an export can run unattended overnight.
- An export in move mode can be repeated without downloading anything again — Adios unpacks the archives it kept.
- Existing album folders and matching files are reused, so rerunning an export is safe.
- Automatic retry and recovery when a drive, network share or photo source temporarily disappears.
- Content-based folder validation detects missing, duplicate and accidentally swapped data folders.
- Disk-space checks before downloading and before building album folders.
Archive quality and reports
- Album membership is restored even when a photo belongs to more than one album.
- Exported files use Flickr's date-taken value as their modification date for useful chronological sorting.
- Clear export and missing-photo reports, plus an anonymized debug report without photo names or absolute paths, collected in an "_ADIOS_LOGS" folder.
- More accurate progress reporting across download, unzip, analysis and album creation.
